10 000 views and counting

In 1996, I spent three months in South America. Backpacking through Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. At the time, no internet was available, and I sent my first "travel letter" home in the form of a cassette where I recorded myself telling the story so far about my trip. I sent it to my mom, and she invited some people over to come and listen.
A few years later, internet was more readily available, and I started writing e-mails to a steadily grown list of friends and family. In 2007, I decided to switch to blogging. It would be a lot easier, and I would have a permanent record. This came about partly because my email provider managed to delete all my e-mails at one time. So all my former "travel letters" where lost. A big loss for me. And I didn't want to repeat that.
My blog was intended for friends and family, but it is in the nature of internet that unless you hide it, someone is going to find it. So there has been a lot of other people who have also visited my blog. Not that I mind. Not at all. And since 2010, my travel blog has been viewed 8 000 times. An average of 6 views per day. And I have seen hits from most countries in the world.
I know that this number is highly unspectacular compared to most blogs, so it isn't something to stop the press about. But I am satisfied that so many people have found it worth their time to read. Or, at the very least, look at the pictures. I will continue to update my blog every time I am going somewhere. At least somewhere new. And I hope people will continue to enjoy it, even though my main focus still will be friends and family.

Personally, I have my own top ten favorite list. They aren't necessarily the most enjoyable, but they tell the tale of something that I still remember. A memory I either cherish or cannot get rid of.
