After I woke up from my after trip slumber, I wanted something to eat. I checked the local area for someplace to sample the local delicacies. And a short walk away was a cafe that served something my taxi driver boasted of; camel. When in Rome etc. So guided by the gps on my phone, I found the place. It had a pleasant feeling about it. Airconditioned. Which was welcomed after walking 15 minutes in 35 degree heat. Or 95 for those of you of the Fahrenheit persuasion. And then some pleasant muted piano music on the speakers. After a few minutes, I realized the piano music was just a 30 second "clayderman-esque" piece running on infinite repeat. If I hadn't been sitting there all by my lonesome self, it would just have been background. But sitting there listening to the same 30 seconds became boring after about 9 seconds.
Anyways. I wasn't there for the music. I was there to get me some camel. A waiter came over with the menu. I opted for the "camel strips". "Would you like fries with that?" As a fan of the "Come fly with me" comedy show, I had to concentrate not to start laughing. I said yes. In case camel wasn't to my liking, at least I would have the fries. After a while he came back. "Aaaa...The camel strips aren't ready, so I changed your order to camel steak. Ok?" "errr...ok? I guess?" He smiled and walked off. After a new while, he came back with a plate of camel steak. And fries. I took a bite. Wow! Not bad. My taxi driver was correct! Camel meat does taste good! Slightly chewy, but that might be due to the cooking. I dunno. But the taste was excellent. Highly recommended. If you should ever pass by a camel-serving restaurant.
I walked back to my hotel. Enjoying the "cool" air after sundown.
